Mark twain national forest's 1.5 million acres through 29 southern and central missouri counties is known for its rivers and trails. The mtnf covers 3,068,800 acres (12,419 km2) of which 1,506,100 acres (6,095 km2). Mark twain national forest may be the state's only national forest, but it covers 29 counties and 11 percent of all forested land in the show me state. If possible, we enjoyed the easy (stony) trail more than our grandson!
